From the solo exhibition TOKEN, staged in a disused Kodak film processing lab in Downtown Cairo, 2021. A T-bone steak rendered at 90 x 90 cm, monumental in scale, banal in subject. The cut floats against a pale ground, dripping at the edges, painted with the same seriousness brought to portraiture. Meat as commodity, meat as sacrifice, meat as the thing a society agrees to consume without asking what was surrendered to produce it. One of fifteen works in TOKEN examining consumption of status, of images, of flesh, through the register of painting.
