Tropical Androgyny Close-Up (2026) — Limited Edition Print
TROPICAL ANDROGYNY CLOSE-UP is drawn from one of Aya Tarek's earliest major public commissions in Europe: a 20 × 8.5 metre mural painted on the back wall of a primary school at Follerstrasse 75, Cologne, for the 2013 edition of CityLeaks Urban Art Festival.
The site was grey and bleak. Tarek painted to give the children who passed it every morning something alive. The result was a young androgynous figure in profile: close-cropped dark hair, a multicoloured geometric headband, eyes half-closed in a meditative downward gaze. A scarlet macaw and gold palm fronds layer across the torso below.
This close-up isolates the portrait: the face, the headband, the neck, the collar of a green shirt. The textured render of the schoolyard wall reads through the image, giving the print the surface of a painting rather than a photograph. You can feel the scale of the wall in a square of paper.
Printed as a giclée on archival Hahnemühle Bamboo Fine Art 290 GSM (or equivalent archival matte fine art paper), hand-signed and numbered by the artist.
Limited edition of 30. Certificate of Authenticity under Azarita Ltd.
