Tropical Androgyny 2013 — Acrylics and spray paint on wall, 20 × 8.5 m. CityLeaks Urban Art Festival, Cologne.
Painted on the back wall of a primary school in Cologne — a bleak, grey surface that children passed every morning. The mural answered the site with tropical colour: an androgynous figure in profile, dressed in parrots and palm fronds, eyes closed against a mint-green sky. Androgyny here is not ambiguity — it is refusal. The figure declines to resolve into one thing or another, and the setting insists that this refusal is not transgressive but natural, as ordinary as the walk to school. Commissioned for the second edition of CityLeaks Urban Art Festival, curated by George Barringhaus. The mural remained on the school wall for several years after the festival ended.
